HistogramsApp

DESCRIPTION:

HistogramsApp is a Python 3.6 application that generates probability density plots (KDE and PDP) from geochronological data . HistogramsApp allows to interactively setup plot parameters such as the bandwidth, the peak detection sensibility, and the plotting interval in million years ( x-axis). In addition, it enables the user to easily design the output plot layout and to compare multiple datasets by stacking them in a single publication quality plot. HistogramsApp is able to handle the processing of multiple datasets, which might contain more than 100.000 individual records. Therefore, the HistogramsApp enables the processing of large and regional or continental scale datasets that are relevant for understanding regional provenance, plate evolution and orogenic cycles, and the evolution of the continental crust through time.

The source code, a tutorial and information about referencing this work can be found at:

Features

  • Load/save multiple datasets containing geochronological data
  • Allow uses to save their sessions for further use and to integrate large datasets (>100.000 records)
  • Easy exportation of publication quality figures in PDF and PNG formats
  • Exported PDF files can be easily edited in vector processing software (Adobe Illustrator, Inkscape, Coreldraw)
  • Automatic peak detection and improved layout of peaks labels
  • Capability to select the bandwidth, and plot parameters as size of text, number of ticks, plotting interval, etc
  • Include UGS time scale chart colors
  • Cross-platform and easily installable in Windows and Mac without previous requirements
